A-list stars are used to the press covering all aspects of their lives, which is why some try to keep their married lives private.
In fact, a handful of Hollywood celebrities have chosen to keep their nuptials a secret altogether.
Adele recently revealed that she was already married to Rich Paul after nearly a year of speculation.
The couple was rumored to have tied the knot last year with Adele, 35, after she referred to the 41-year-old sports agent as her ‘husband.’
Now she is said to have confirmed the union at best friend Alan Carr‘s comedy show in Los Angeles, with an audience member confirming the news to Deuxmoi.
An onlooker explained: ‘I was at Alan Carr’s comedy show in LA tonight and Adele was in the audience. Alan asked the crowd if anyone got married recently and Adele shouted “I did.”‘
Adele and Rich are far from the first Hollywood couple who have kept their wedded status a secret.
Some couples have gone weeks, months and even years successfully hiding their marriage status.
However, with life in the limelight the truth generally always comes out.
Sometimes, celebrities even slip up and give away that they tied the knot.
Here are the famous couples — from Justin Long and Kate Bosworth to Cardi B and Offset — who managed to keep their marriage a secret (at least for a while).
Justin Long and Kate Bosworth
Long, 45, and Bosworth, 40, surprised fans with their unexpected marriage.
The pair had only been engaged for two months when the Live Free Or Die Hard actor revealed that Bosworth was his ‘now-wife’ in May.
Long was telling a story about his time in Bulgaria, where they both filmed the movie Barbarian on his podcast, Life Is Short, when he dropped the hint.
‘I was there while I was like really falling in love with my now-wife,’ Long told guest Kyra Sedgwick.
‘She came to visit and I had never been comfortable with… set visits. I like separating the relationship… But, yeah, I loved having her there and we just had the most magical time.
‘It helped me having her there. She’d help me with scenes. It was the best.’
A couple of days after that, they were spotted wearing wedding bands on her Instagram Story.
At the end of May, a source revealed to People that they had tied the knot in a last-minute ceremony at the Rockaway Hotel.
‘After they got engaged, Kate couldn’t wait to marry Justin. She knew that she never wanted a big wedding. She just cared about being married,’ the source explained.
‘They kept talking about eloping. They ended up having an impromptu and casual wedding a few weeks ago. It was perfect. She is thrilled to be married to Justin.’
The two first sparked dating rumors after working together in 2021 and confirmed their relationship later that year.
They got engaged about two years into their relationship in March and were married by May.
Cardi B and Offset
Cardi and Offset, both 31, managed to keep their marriage a secret for about a year with a fake proposal.
Offset proposed to the rapper during a concert in October 2017. However, it would eventually come out that they had already been secretly married a month prior in September 2017.
Their secret marriage started to come to light in July 2018. Offset referred to the WAP rapper as his ‘wife’ at the BET Awards.
After fan speculation, Cardi confirmed that they were already married and had been since September 2017.
‘There are so many moments that I share with the world and there are moments that I want to keep for myself!’ Cardi tweeted at the time.
‘Getting married was one of those moments! Our relationship was so new breaking up and making up and we had a lot of growing up to do but we was so in love we didn’t want to lose each other, was one morning in September we woke up and decided to get married.
‘We found someone to marry us. And she did, just the two of us and my cousin. I said I do, with no dress no make up and no ring!’
The two first started dating in February 2017.
While fans thought they were moving quickly when they got engaged that October, they had really moved even quicker than that with their September wedding.
They welcomed their daughter, Kulture, in July, around the time that the marriage speculation first started.
They hit a couple of bumps along the way, with a brief split in December 2018 and divorce filings in September 2020.
However, in November 2020, they called off their divorce and welcomed their son, Wave, into the world in September 2021.
Kate Winslet and Edward Abel Smith
Kate Winslet and Edward Abel Smith have been a notoriously private couple so it was no surprise that the couple wanted to keep their wedding and marriage status on the down low.
The Titanic star first started dating Edward, formerly known as Ned Rocknroll, in 2011.
By the time 2012 rolled around, the couple secretly got engaged and tied the knot months later – completely out of the public eye.
They tied the knot in December 2012 and the news didn’t get out until later that month.
‘I can confirm that Kate Winslet married Ned Rocknroll in NY earlier this month in a private ceremony attended by her two children and a very few friends and family,’ the rep told Us Weekly at the time.
‘The couple had been engaged since the summer.’
Kate gave birth to their son, Bear, around the time of their first anniversary in December 2013.
The two are still happily married to this day.
Heidi Klum and Tom Kaulitz
Heidi Klum and Tom Kaulitz reveled in the secrecy of their marriage for as long as they could.
They discreetly became husband and wife in early 2019, but it wasn’t confirmed until July of that year.
After revealing they got engaged in December 2018, Heidi playfully dodged questions about their future wedding plans.
The couple was already married by February 2019, but played along with ET’s questions about setting a date.
‘Yeah, I think we did [set a date], but you will find out eventually,’ she coyly told the outlet.
Eventually, Us Weekly confirmed in July 2019 that the couple had tied the knot months prior.
The two were first spotted together in 2018 so they moved rather quickly to tie the knot just on year later.
The model and former Tokio Hotel guitarist are still happily married to this day.
Anna Faris and Michael Barrett
Anna Faris has once spoken out about how she and her partner, Michael Barrett, are both introverts, so it’s not too surprising they wanted to keep their wedding under wraps.
The Unqualified podcast host let slip that she and Barrett secretly tied the knot on a July 2021.
‘I think we’ve spent the last year in a place of reflection, in a place of kind of prioritization to some degree, a place of anxiety, a place of like, whatever, assessment. But I’m looking around, just so, just my fiancé’s right… he’s now my husband,’ the 44-year-old Scary Movie alum told guest Gail Simmons.
‘Yes, we eloped… I’m sorry…. I just blurted that out, but it just feels [like] I can’t say fiancé anymore,’ she said to her new husband who was present for the recording.
‘It feels great. It was at a local courthouse up in Washington state.’
‘Everything about it just felt right. … It was, San Juan Island up in Washington state… which is just the most magical place on earth,’ Faris added.
E! News obtained a copy of their marriage certificate, which stated they had tied the knot a month earlier on June 14.
The two first started dating in 2017 after she had separated from her ex-husband, Chris Pratt, and got engaged in 2019.
Kanye West and Bianca Censori
Many fans didn’t even know West was dating Censori when they had tied the knot in secret in December 2022.
They then had a public ceremony in mid-January after revealing their relationship earlier that month.
However, there was speculation over whether the public wedding was legitimate or not.
The confusion around their intriguing marriage has finally been explained after the pair wed under a ‘confidential marriage’ license in California, meaning that it was not made public record.
Many had assumed that the 46-year-old rapper and Yeezy architect, 28, married in a ceremony that was not legally binding, as there was seemingly no evidence of the union, with reports claiming they had a private ceremony in Beverly Hills earlier this year in January without an official marriage license.
After months of mystery surrounding their whirlwind union, West and Censori were indeed officially and legally married, DailyMail.com exclusively revealed in October.
DailyMail.com obtained and reviewed the official document that listed their date of marriage as December 20, 2022 – just one month after he finalized his divorce from his first wife, Kim Kardashian, in November 2022.
Currently, the couple is taking a break after Bianca went back to Australia for an intervention hosted by her family.
Zoe Saldana and Marco Perego
Zoe Saldana and Marco Perego’s 2013 marriage managed to remain secret for months.
It wasn’t until September of that year that news got out that the couple had tied the month in the early summertime.
The Guardians Of The Galaxy actress, 35, wed Italian artist Marco in a small ceremony in front of family and friends, a source close to the couple confirmed to People at the time.
‘They are very happy,’ the source said.
It’s likely that they were able to fly under the radar and fans hadn’t expected anything because they were only first romantically linked in May 2013.
Not long after, they became pregnant with twins and welcomed them into the world in November 2014.
In 2017, Saldana announced the arrival of their third child, Zen.
The two are still happily together to this day.
Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn
Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn had sparked marriage rumors ever since they first got engaged in 2017.
It wouldn’t be until December 2018 that the two would secretly tie the knot.
Even with the speculation, they were able to avoid addressing their marital status until his song, Remember The Name, was released in 2019.
After addressing Cherry as his wife in the song, he confirmed that they were married.
‘[I actually wrote it] before me and Cherry got married and I knew that we’d be married by the point that the song came out,’ he said during a July 2019 interview with Charlamagne Tha God.
A source told The Sun that the couple had gotten married that December prior.
‘Ed got married a few days before Christmas. It was very quiet—just Ed’s oldest school pals, limited family and the priest,’ The Sun reported.
‘He wanted no fuss and he wanted it to be something entirely for them — just a tiny winter wedding… Neither of them were that fussed about making a big deal about it.’
The two are still married and have since welcomed their daughters, Lyra Antarctica and Jupiter.
Elizabeth Olsen and Robbie Arnett
Elizabeth Olsen and Robbie Arnett managed to keep their relationship a secret for years after their 2019 engagement.
Even though Olsen had slipped up and called Arnett her ‘husband’ during a June 2021 interview with Variety.
In a June 2022 interview on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, the WandaVision actress revealed the pair ‘eloped’ and then ‘had a wedding at another time.’
‘It was before COVID,’ she continued. ‘I just never talked about it.’
Olsen explained that marrying him at that time was coincidentally convenient because she ‘had to work in England, and there are visa issues with that.’
‘We, luckily, timed things out, accidentally, really well,’ she added.
‘He wouldn’t have been able to come at all actually. And also everything was so backed up. You couldn’t even like try to get married then. But it ended up working out.’
The two first started dating in 2017 and are still wed.
