I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! campmates aren’t roughing it as badly as viewers may think.
As the celebrities sleep outback alongside creepy crawlies, fans of the ITV show could be forgiven for thinking the stars are having a tough time on the reality TV show. But it’s been revealed the camp actually boasts a secret roof, unseen to viewers watching updates from the jungle on TV. To ensure recording equipment in protected, and to feed the campmates when their Bushtucker Trial reward arrives, the ‘jungle’ features a man-made roof to wind the bag down.
While the roof doesn’t actually cover the campmates beds as they sleep at night, it does provide cover in one area of the camp where the celebrities can retreat to during rainy periods. Not only that, the ‘jungle’ Nigel Farage, Josie Gibson and Jamie-Lynn Spears and co are camping in at the moment may not technically be a jungle.
Springbrook National Park, where I’m A Celebrity is shot, is defined by Tweed Shire Council as “lowland subtropical rainforest”, rather than a jungle. “A lot of the camp is not under shelter – it’s not like the roof at Wimbledon,” a TV insider has claimed to the MailOnline, amid fans fuming online as the celebrities seemingly always manage to stay dry.
“Funny that when it’s pouring down with rain the fire’s still going and their hair’s never wet #ImACeleb,” one fan of the show has previously tweeted. Another viewer mused: “The fact all the celebrities are completely dry when it’s supposedly ‘torrential rain’ just shows how much of a set up it all is.”
As I’m A Celebrity airs every year, the infamous shower often provides some iconic scenes – with former star Nicola McLean recently admitting she braved the cold water in a bid to secure more airtime on the show. Insiders have revealed the waterfall shower actually has an ‘off switch’ in order to turn the water supply off between 3pm until 6pm to conserve water.
The treehouse cheeky Geordie duo Ant and Dec often share their hilarious jokes and commentary about the celebrities from appears to have a new orange canopy not seen when the show previously aired from Australia. Alison Hammond shared some camp secrets as she looked back on her stint in the jungle back in 2010.
The This Morning presenter was a late addition to the celebrity camp the year Stacey Solomon was crowned Queen of the Jungle. Speaking on the Saving Grace podcast, Alison revealed that despite the camp being located in Australia, you can’t enjoy a spot of sunbathing.
“No, you can’t [sunbathe]. There’s trees everywhere and also they’ve got this canopy for lighting,” the former Big Brother star confessed. “You feel like you’re on a camping film set but you can’t see the cameras.” She went on to reveal how Gillian McKeith managed to smuggle ‘a load of salt and seasonings’ into camp in order to make the rice taste better, but eventually had her contraband confiscated.
