Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wishing King Charles a happy 75th birthday could come with a hidden agenda: wanting the royal family’s cash.
The estranged Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly called the monarch on Tuesday where the “Suits” actress allegedly showed him a prerecorded video of their kids Archie, 4, and Lilibet, 2, singing “Happy Birthday” to their grandpa.
But Daily Mail Diary editor Richard Eden claims Harry and Meghan’s unexpected olive branch is a “desperate” attempt at once again being on the receiving end of the royal family’s money.
“We’re talking about two privacy campaigners here, when it comes to other people’s privacy, we get the details,” Eden said Thursday on the Mail’s “Palace Confidential.”
“To me, it smacks of desperation, of Harry and Meghan wanting to get back into the royal fold.”
Eden continued: “We don’t see videos of Meghan sending clips to her own father any more — but when it comes to the king they do.
“They seem very keen to maintain their royal connection. It’s lucrative.”
Eden also noted that the Telegraph, which received a detailed summary of the apparent call from an insider, reports that Harry and Charles will speak again next week.
The Post has contacted reps for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for comment.
Since stepping down as senior members of the royal family in 2020, Harry and Meghan have signed multimillion-dollar deals with Apple, Netflix and Spotify.
Markle teased a return to Hollywood on Thursday while walking the red carpet at Variety’s Power of Women event in Los Angeles .
“[I want to make] things that make people feel — I was going say ‘good,’ but it’s more than that, things that make people feel something, right? And feel a sense of community,” she explained.
“But we have so many exciting things on the slate. I can’t wait until we can announce them, but I’m just really proud of what we’re creating.”
