This rumor is dead in the water.
“Deadpool 3” director Shawn Levy has finally responded to recent chatter that Taylor Swift, 33, could make an appearance in his superhero sequel.
The superhero flick, starring Ryan Reynolds, 46, as the titular character, is one of the most anticipated upcoming films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe because of it’s inclusion of Hugh Jackman, 54, as the beloved Wolverine.
But the film, which is being produced by Marvel Studios and Maximum Effort, is getting even more attention due to rumors that Swift, arguably one of the biggest superstars currently on the planet, may be joining the cast as well.
Fans have been speculating that the “Karma” singer may make a cameo as the superhero Dazzler. Also known as Alison Blaire, she’s a Human Mutant with the ability to convert sound into light, and energy.
According to Marvel, “the louder the source, the more powerful the output. This can manifest in a variety of different ways. Dazzler began by creating her own light shows, but learned that she could blind people with it. Over the years, she figured out how to create holograms and other distractions, plus hard light constructs that can be used as weapons.
“She can also shoot bursts of light out of her fingers, hands, eyes, and other parts,” Marvel explains. “Between her X-Men training and her years fighting for survival on Earth and the Mojoverse, Blaire also become a formidable fighter. Even when she loses, though, she seems to have a knack for coming back from the brink of death.”
While the role is seemingly perfect for the pop icon, Levy, 55, is keeping Swift’s possible involvement with the film a secret.
“I’m going across the board. ‘No comment’ because that’s a double whammy,” Levy explained in an interview with The Wrap. “That’s Taylor-related. And it’s MCU-related. I’m no dummy. You’re going to have to wait and see.”
Rumors may have reached a fever’s pitch after Levy, Jackman, Reynolds and Swift were all photographed together watching the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets play at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Oct. 1.
“It’s almost depressing by the way,” the Canadian film producer told Variety of the spectacle. “I can make 50 more hit movies and shows and I’ll still be known as the guy in the orange suede jacket going to the Chiefs-Jets game with Taylor and others.”
While “Deadpool 3” is scheduled to release in theaters on May 3, 2024, the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, may cause a delay.
“I don’t even know if we officially have [a release date]. I know we were gonna be May 3,” Levy to Thhe Wrap. “Certainly, the actors’ strike and the long pause in production have put that release date in true risk. We’ve shot half the movie. I’ve edited half the movie. We’re dying to get back to work and get this movie out next year.”
“I wish I knew.”
